IMPORTANT: AIRPORT RIDE/PARKING INFORMATION

Folks -

Some concerns have been raised by airport tenants about the parking at the cul-de-sac. Our airport friends, some of whom are cyclists, have proposed that we start parking in an area that is away from the tenants, such as Jet Blue. They have proposed us parking in a vacant field off of Heintzleman. Manny prepared a map set forth below.

Please everyone start parking there or offsite, and encourage others do to so. We need to make the smallest footprint possible out there, so that we do not jeopardize this very popular cycling area. I want to reiterate that the airport folks have been great to work with and have been supportive of us, so please accord them the same respect (i.e., how we ride out there, litter, etc.)

Hey Owlman, I would think TSA or airport security would be curious about the vehicles parked "out there" especially over the winter months when there are many.

Any commitment on there will be no towing or tickets?

What are you on drugs? This is Florida and it's a zoo without bars, of course there's snakes and gators. Hell you might even see the airports own Owlman; the only animal that can see his speedometer in the dark!

The heavy hand of the GOAA has started crushing the little guy. Everyone got warning tickets for parking at the airport last night. Frank C. said he talked to them and they suggested the blue parking lot on Cargo road. But only the first 40 minutes is free. Personally, I will park in the lot where Advanced Cycles is at 436 and Lee Vista. Not sure what everyone can do for the time trials. How are we getting in the way of Jet Blue? We park north of their parking lot entrance.

Haven’t done the airport for the past 3 years but is it illegal to park on Hanger Road Now?? Be nice to know why they don’t want people parking there, i.e are we leaving trash, peeing in the woods or just too many cars??

What we did was show up 'en masse' every Wednesday night. The Jet Blue people were OK because their office staff was reduced by the time we showed up. The rental car employees complained the most. With all the bikers they could no longer speed and drive like the lunatics they are. They were becoming more confrontational and playing chicken with some bikers. This closure was for our (the bikers) own safety.

While you were schooling everyone last night at the Windy ride, I was at the airport working on my form. I actually parked in Comair’s parking lot, which is off the only road between the two plane overpasses since the open field area was full of water yesterday. Is everyone really bumping over the curb to park in the open field on the West side of the road? Instead of bumping over the curb, there are two other areas were the curb breaks: one is for a relay station and the other is for an access road. However, both have strict warning signs of “no trespassing”. Is the airport authority going to allow us to park off of the access road and not get towed?

When I left last night there was a tow truck hanging out at the traffic light nearest the 528. He was waiting to tow someone or something, like a big Owl in an Orca TT suit.

How about just parking up at the Walmart lot north of the toll booth or even Laz's shop and riding over? Instead of parking in a field. Just a suggestion, but hopefully Drx will not disapprove as he has in the past..

Yes, I have seen 15 - 20 cars out there on Thurs nights but there was room for more.
