drop out derailleur mount stripped

Postby jlafren42 » Tue Oct 27, 2009 2:20 pm

Some of you saw my picture posted on FB last week, i threw a chain while riding and i think that possibly instead of trying to shift and throw it back on the the big ring, i may have shifted the rear derailleur such that the chain jumped inbetween the cassette and the spokes, once this happened the derailleur just got completely twisted around and actually stripped out the derailleur mount. Unfortunately, the 2005 Madone 5.9 has a 1 piece dropout/derailleur mount made of aluminum that appears to be glued into the seat/chain stays, in other words... John is HOSED. I sent an e-mail to Trek, but just curious if anyone is aware if the dropout can be removed from the frame/replaced? Laz at APC says they cannot do it, just wondering if anyone else has any ideas?

I'll post another pic in a few minutes.

Those dropouts are repairable and usually require sending the frame back to Trek. The dropout saver works well though..
